ART IS NOT WHAT IS SHOWN TO YOU. ART IS WHAT YOU SEE.

Hi, I am Christian. Born in 1983 in Weimar, I also live in the cultural city. Like almost every child, I loved to paint from an early age. A little different than others, I was assigned to a painting circle.

In primary school, painting suffered from the fact that I was now playing an instrument.

In my teenage years, however, the pent-up energy to express myself visually bubbled up again and so I filled a sheet of paper with drawings almost daily. For years, only with pencil and charcoal.

On a vacation, I met a woman who painted watercolors. Kindly, she gifted me a few sheets of watercolor paper and shared her paints with me. This is how I gathered my first experiences in the field of watercolor.

Due to my job, I hardly had any time to further develop my painting talent later on. In this phase, I worked more with digital media and photography. But just like in my youth, impressions and feelings increasingly demanded to be expressed by hand. I traded my pencil for acrylic paints and began painting on canvases.

As is certainly the case with any painter, whether amateur or professional, space at home became increasingly limited. Together with my artist friend Annette Heise, I rented a studio in Apolda. Besides the camaraderie and source of inspiration that a shared studio brings, I lost my fear of oil paints here. Since then, I have primarily painted with oil on canvas. From time to time, I also express myself in clay sculptures to make up for the missing dimension in my paintings.

In my choice of motivation, I feel free. Landscapes inspire me very much. But I also portray social and political developments in my own way in my works.

Studio Freiraum

Together with my artist colleague Annette I “live” in the Atelier Freiraum in Apolda. As the name suggests, all the freedom to work creatively prevails here. Both from the side of the square, and in relation to any artistic freedoms. Everything can be thought and created here. But for both of us, freedom also means, especially when we are in the studio, to be free from everyday life with our duties. To be in a place where we can recharge our batteries.

You are welcome to visit us in the studio. We are regularly open on Thursdays from 16:00 to at least 6:00 p.m. here. So that you do not have to stand in front of a closed door, please arrange your visit with us in advance. You can use this contact form for this.
